The student compares two- dimensional figures, three-dimensional figures, or both by their attributes using formal geometry vocabulary.

Below is the script for our group project EDLD 5363:

The Search for 3D Solids!

The world around us if filled with 3D solids!  In this unit we will identify and classify 3 dimensional figures according to their attributes (attributes like the number of faces, vertices, and edges the figures have), and search for real world examples of these exciting shapes!  You will also have the opportunity to take pictures of 3D solids in your own home.  Let’s begin our solid search for some real world 3D shapes!  Remember, 3D solid is a figure that has a length, width, and a height.  It is something that you can hold, and that takes up space!  The first solid we found on our solid search is the cube!  This cube is unique because it has 12 edges that are all the same length!  The cube also has 6 flat faces, and 8 vertices.  Can you think of any cubes you have in your classroom?  Next on our solid search we found a cone!  A cone has a circular base and one vertex. You can find cones when you are at a birthday party, getting an ice cream from the ice cream man or even while supporting Lamar!  Here’s a cylinder!  A cylinder can roll on its curved side, or stand tall on one of its 2 flat faces.  Where can you locate a cylinder in your house?  Next, is a solid that can be found in any sporting event.  The sphere!  This special solid has no faces, edges, or vertices.  It can roll, bounce, or be thrown through the air!  Finally, we found a rectangular prism!  This solid is very similar to the cube.  As you can see, it also has 12 edges, 6 faces, and 8 vertices.  There are rectangular prisms all over!  How many can you locate in your room?  Now, it is your turn to locate as many different 3D solids in your own home!  Use a camera to document your solid search so that you can share your findings with the class.  Good Luck, and we can’t wait to see what solids you have in your everyday life!

EDLD 5363 Week 2

This week we downloaded Audacity and created a quick How To video for it.  We also created a How To video for a video editing software.  I also downloaded U2Any Screen Recorder to capture my screen as I narrated with the script I wrote.  I did edit the screen capture a little once it was finished, but it did save time narrating the video as I worked on screen.  I also added a creative commons license  at the end of both videos.

EDLD 5363 Week 1 Reflection

Writing the script for my photo story for week 1 came fairly easily.  When I started thinking about what story I could tell, I immediately starting thinking about my travels over seas.  The difficult part was deciding which country to write about.  Working on my Master's in Educational Technology, the story of the rural school in China quickly emerged.   After collaborating with a couple of my classmates,  I finished my script and started putting my photos together.  I printed out pages with thumbnails and numbered the photos to use as a storyboard.    Thankfully, the girls that peer reviewed my script are also going to be my group members for weeks 3-5 and our group project!   It's nice moving from course to course with the same people so that you can build relationships with them and learn from them as well.
